Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about calculating YouTube playlist lengths.

How do I calculate the total duration of a YouTube playlist?
Simply copy the YouTube playlist URL from your browser address bar or share sheet (for example https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL...) or paste the raw playlist ID, paste it into the PlayPulse search bar, and click Calculate Time. PlayPulse connects to the YouTube Data API v3 to retrieve every video's duration and sums them up instantly.
How does the playback speed multiplier calculate time saved?
When you watch at accelerated speeds, the total watch duration is divided by the speed multiplier (e.g. Total Duration ÷ 1.5). The time saved is the difference between normal runtime (1.0x) and the accelerated runtime. PlayPulse automatically presents time saved for 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2.0x, and any custom speed on the slider.
Can I calculate the duration for a specific range or subset of videos?
Yes. PlayPulse offers two ways to calculate subsets: use the Range Filter to calculate between video #X and video #Y, or open the Individual Videos Breakdown drawer to check or uncheck individual videos in real time.
How does the Daily Study Schedule Planner work?
The Study Schedule Planner takes your effective playlist duration (taking into account your chosen playback speed and selected videos) and divides it by your daily study time (such as 30, 60, 120, or 180 minutes/day). It then projects the exact number of days required and your estimated finish date on the calendar.
Why are some videos excluded or missing from the total duration?
Videos that are marked as Private, Deleted, or Region-Restricted by YouTube do not expose duration metadata through the YouTube API. PlayPulse gracefully skips these placeholder items and computes the runtime of all accessible videos.
